M42 ATM (active traffic management)

Pinehall Communications were pro active technology partners to  Birse Civils via J McCann Ltd on the M42 ATM pilot project.

The M42 between junctions 3a and 7 was chosen for the pilot because of its strategic importance. Providing a link between the M40 and M6 motorways as well as serving the National Exhibition centre (NEC) and Birmingham International Airport.

Some of the facts about the 17km project include:

  • Over 50 new gantry structures
  • Over 125 CCTV cameras
  • More than 250 gantry indicator signs
  • 1000 new lighting columns
  • In excess of 300,000 metres of new cables to be installed.

Our involvement with this project has included many different aspects from the more traditional approach to comms and lighting systems. Through to a much more bespoke and innovative method of working and solving a solution. Including the introduction and implementation of CEC and new 600 cabinets of which we are approved installers.

To Include:

  • Gantry infrastructure cabling, termination and testing for power and data requirements.
  • Power termination / testing within new CEC (combined equipment cabinets) for both mains supply and all out going circuits.
  • Mains supply termination and testing  to BS7671 : 2008
  • The termination and testing of coaxial cables for new and existing CCTV sites.
  • The testing of new street lighting systems.
  • Termination and testing of new ANPR (Automatic number plate recognition) and ESS (emergency stop sign) sites.
  • Equipment installation.
  • New system integration.
  • Trial of new midas spacing system.
